Tata Motors Limited is mainly engaged in the business of automobile products consisting of all types of commercial and passenger vehicles, including financing of the vehicles sold by the Company. The Company's operating segments consists of Automotive and Others. Auto motive segment consists of business of automobile products consisting of all types of commercial and passenger vehicles, including financing of the vehicles sold by the Company. Others primarily include construction equipment, engineering solutions, and software operations. In June 2007, the Company launched two passenger van models, powered by diesel engines: the 13-seater Winger maxi-van, and the seven-seater Magic, which is a passenger version of its mini-truck, Ace.
During the fiscal year ended March 31, 2007 (fiscal 2007), the Company sold 334,238 commercial vehicles and 246,042 passenger vehicles (including sale of 1,328 Fiat cars). The vehicle financing division of the Company and its wholly owned subsidiary company, TML Financial Services Limited operate under the brand name TataMotorfinance (TMF). TMF financed 1,65,376 new vehicles in fiscal 2007. Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Company Limited (TDCV) is a 100% subsidiary of the Company. TDCV is in the business of manufacture and sale of heavy commercial vehicles. Telco Construction Equipment Company Limited (Telcon) is engaged in the business of manufacturing and sale of construction equipment and allied services, in which the Company has a 60% holding with the balance 40% being held by Hitachi Construction Machinery Company Limited, Japan. Tata Technologies Limited (TTL) is a subsidiary of the Company and has a holding 84.76% of TTL's equity capital. Through its operating companies, INCAT Ltd. and Tata Technologies iKS Inc., the Tata Technologies group provides specialized engineering and design services (E&D), product lifecycle management (PLM) and product-centric information technology services to manufacturers. It responds to customers' needs through its 17 subsidiary companies having operations in 45 cities across 12 countries on three continents and through its offshore development centers in India and Thailand. TAL Manufacturing Solutions Limited (TAL) is a 100% subsidiary of the Company engaged in the business of providing factory automation solutions and design and manufacture of a range of machine tools. HV Transmissions Limited (HVTL) and HV Axles Limited (HVAL), 100% subsidiary companies of the Company are engaged in the business of manufacture of gear boxes and axles for heavy & medium commercial vehicles, with production facilities and infrastructure based at Jamshedpur.
