| Tata Motors has launched the people's car - 'Tata Nano.' The car will be available in several variants. Ratan Tata, Chairman, Tata Group said that the car would be manufactured at the Singur plant later this year. He informed that the standard Nano would be priced at Rs 1 lakh for dealers (excluding VAT).
Tata Motors's much anticipated Nano - cheaper than some CD stereo systems in a top-end Mercedes - will bring car ownership into the reach of tens of millions of people across the world.
Despite the secrecy surrounding today's grand unveiling in Delhi, there had been glimpses into the design of the four-seater that has a top speed of 75 miles an hour and is held together more with strong glue than nuts and bolts.
While introducing the car at an auto show in New Delhi, Mr Tata said the Nano had passed emission standards and would average about 50 miles per gallon (20 kilometers per litre). "Dr. Pachauri need not have nightmares," Mr Tata said.
Dealers will sell the car for 100,000 rupees but customers will pay slightly more than that due to taxes and other charges. |
